KODUKAK Rwanda

On the steep slopes surrounding picturesque Lake Kivu, one of the African Great Lakes, the coffee farming cooperative known as KODUKAK grows the prized heirloom varietal Bourbon. Rich volcanic soil and careful cultivation, followed by processing at the respected Kigeyo Washing Station, make KODUKAK's coffees enticingly sweet and delicate.

KODUKAK is a member of the large umbrella group COOPAC, a certified organic and Fair Trade cooperative of farmers throughout Rwanda's coffee growing region. COOPAC operates more than 50 washing stations and has successfully improved both the quality of coffee and the quality of life for thousands of coffee farmers. In addition to ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their crops, COOPAC has helped build a school, health-care clinics, roads and bridges. It also helps farmers acquire cows and goats and teaches advanced conservation and cultivation techniques.
