Now recovering from years of political unrest and civil war, the Nasa Paez community of La Palmera, Tolima fosters social and economic growth by relying on the indigenous concept of 'mink'a.' This tribal tradition encourages all members to work collaboratively for the good of the community. With this idea in mind, the community’s coffee farmers formed a cooperative and have attained both Organic and Fair Trade certification. Over the last few years the farmers have made significant investments in product quality, environmental stewardship, and programs for community youth.
