Taking a cue from Rwanda’s developing coffee industry, Burundi’s local governments and farmers have established more than 160 community washing stations across its five coffee growing regions. These steps, among others, allow farmers to process their crops promptly, aiding in spoilage prevention and providing faster compensation. The community washing station at Rimiro, meaning ‘where we cultivate’, is aptly named, serving as the site where more than 1700 nearby family farms can readily process freshly picked cherries.
